Local-first & signing in

G Kanban is local-first: no account is required to use it. Your boards live in this browser, in localStorage, from the moment you open the app.

Using it without an account

Choose “Continue without an account” (guest mode) from the landing page and you’re straight into a fully working board — nothing is sent over the network. This is a deliberate default, not a limited trial: local-only use has no feature cap.

What signing in adds

Signing in (via Google or GitHub — no passwords are ever collected) adds:

• Cross-device sync — your boards follow you to another browser or computer.
• Cloud backup — protection against losing a single browser’s local storage.

The first time you sign in with existing local data, G Kanban asks you directly: keep local only, or back up & sync. This choice is remembered per account, and cloud sync itself is a Pro capability — free accounts can sign in, but stay local-only until upgraded.

Where your account data lives

Each signed-in account gets its own isolated local storage bucket, so switching between accounts on a shared device never mixes data. Cloud data, when sync is enabled, is stored in the EU (Frankfurt) — see Privacy & data location for the full picture.

Sync status

A small status pill in the header shows whether you’re local-only, syncing, fully synced, or hitting a sync error — so you always know where your data currently lives.
