Frequently asked questions
What is G Kanban?
Section titled “What is G Kanban?”G Kanban is a spatial kanban board: instead of stacking cards in vertical lists like most kanban tools, it places cards on a graph-paper-style grid where you choose exactly where each card sits and how much space it takes up. See What is G Kanban.
How is G Kanban different from Trello, Jira, or other kanban tools?
Section titled “How is G Kanban different from Trello, Jira, or other kanban tools?”Traditional kanban tools model a column as an ordered list — cards stack top to bottom, and the tool decides where a new or moved card lands. G Kanban models a column as a grid of square cells: cards can be sized by importance, arranged spatially, and either stay frozen exactly where you drop them or auto-pack to the top, depending on the layout mode you choose per column. See The spatial grid.
Do I need to create an account to use G Kanban?
Section titled “Do I need to create an account to use G Kanban?”No. G Kanban works fully offline with no sign-up — your boards are stored in your browser from the moment you open it. Signing in is only needed if you want cloud backup and sync across devices. See Local-first & signing in.
Is my data private?
Section titled “Is my data private?”Yes. G Kanban runs local-first with no network calls unless you sign in. If you do enable cloud sync, your data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt) with no ads, no data sales, and no third-party tracking. See Privacy & data location.
What’s the difference between Free and Pro?
Section titled “What’s the difference between Free and Pro?”Free includes the entire spatial grid experience with no caps on boards, columns, or cards. Pro adds cloud sync across devices and the real-data Insights dashboard (cycle time, throughput, aging WIP). See Plans & pricing.
Can I use G Kanban without the internet?
Section titled “Can I use G Kanban without the internet?”Yes — it’s designed to work fully offline in local-only mode. An internet connection is only needed to sign in or sync.
Can I export my data, or move away from G Kanban later?
Section titled “Can I export my data, or move away from G Kanban later?”Yes. Export downloads a complete JSON copy of your boards at any time, and Import can bring that same data back in (to G Kanban, or to build your own tooling against it). See Export / import.
Does G Kanban support keyboard-only use?
Section titled “Does G Kanban support keyboard-only use?”Yes — navigation, card creation/editing, cutting/pasting/duplicating cards, switching boards, and toggling the split-pane view are all available from the keyboard, along with a searchable command palette (Ctrl/Cmd + K). See Keyboard shortcuts.
What are “flavors” in G Kanban?
Section titled “What are “flavors” in G Kanban?”Flavors are an at-a-glance visual marker you can put on any card — a kanji, an emoji, or any single character, with a colored accent along the card’s edge — separate from labels, which are more like traditional tags. See Flavors.
Can multiple people collaborate on the same board?
Section titled “Can multiple people collaborate on the same board?”G Kanban doesn’t currently support live multiplayer editing of a shared board. Sync is about keeping one person’s boards consistent across their own devices, not about real-time collaboration between different people.
How do I delete my account or my data?
Section titled “How do I delete my account or my data?”Open Settings and use the Danger zone: Delete local data if you’re not on a cloud account, or Delete account if you are. See Deleting data & account.
Where can I get help if something isn’t working?
Section titled “Where can I get help if something isn’t working?”Check the Troubleshooting page first, or send feedback from Settings, or email support@gkanban.com.
